AT&T just announced a deal to buy T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telekom in a cash and stock deal worth $39 billion.

The deal would make AT&T the nation's largest wireless carrier by a wide margin, so it will probably face significant government scrutiny, and AT&T could have to make some big concessions.

Or the deal could be blocked completely -- last year was the first year that the FCC did not conclude the U.S. wireless industry was "competitive." The companies expect the deal to close in "approximately 12 months" -- a long time.

Ten Reasons to Buy Windows Phone 7 Handsets

Since its launch in October 2010, Windows Phone 7 has been a popular topic of coverage on many technology sites, and is now one of Microsoft’s main focuses alongside Xbox, Kinnect and Microsoft Office.

While the technology press might be happy with devices – and in particular the platform – the most popular phones remain Apple iPhones, Androids and BlackBerry handsets.

So what single reason is there to switch to Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7? Why would a new or seasoned mobile user want to decide to buy that particular phone when others with far more users and apps a... Read more »

Okay, so again, for the second time today, I’m kind of branching out of our usual domain of covering strictly indie games to bring you more of a converstation on the methods of delivering indie games, if that makes any sense.

Last Friday, at the very start of IndieCade, I was able to sneak into a panel on Intel’s new "AppUp” application store for netbook computers. The premise is fairly simple, Intel has released an app store — just like on Android, and iOS — for people who own netbooks. The idea is that since these computers are so small and are typically owned by people who don’t need a full sized computer they instead act more like a tablet or smart phone for many people hence the application store market should work.

The reason why I bring this up today is that, like all great app stores, Ap... Read more »

Broadcast content streaming site Hulu may be preparing for an IPO to raise as much as $300 million with Morgan Stanley as the primary underwriter, according to a report from Reuters.

The additional funding could be used to pay for new content sources like deals with broadcast networks. Google and Apple are entering the living room with Google TV and the revamped Apple TV. They’ll both features movie and show rentals. And Netflix is already a heavy-hitter in the streaming video marketplace. So it’s becoming a bit of a crowded market for streaming premium content.

Hulu is a free, ad-supported way for viewers to watch content from several of the largest broadcast networks online. It already streams content from broadcast networks Fox, NBC and ABC, and CBS ... Read more »

Expect Microsoft to push Windows Phone 7 as they would the Xbox 360: a video game machine that doubles as a multipurpose electronic and social media device. That was the message being delivered as part of a Microsoft Press Conference in New York this morning discussing Windows Phone 7 and several key partnerships.

Multiple handsets (from Dell, Samsung, LG and others) are being released as early as October 21st to European and Asian markets, with a North American launch beginning November 8th.

Worthy of mention in Microsoft's briefing was the outpouring of publisher support for the device. Not surprisingly, EA is backing Windows Phone 7 with a host of initial releases including Need For Speed, Tetris, and The Sims 3 - all of which will include XBox Live support.

Microsoft has also mentioned development and publishing support from internal Microsoft Game Studios, G... Read more »
