Facebook was first incorporated into the PlayStation 3 experience back in November of last year as part of PS3 system software 3.10. It’s usefulness was limited, but with it came a promise of more features to be added as part of future firmware updates. Some new features are now here thanks to PS3 firmware update 3.40 which is due out within the next 24 hours.

Adding to the ability to post trophy and PlayStation Store activity onto your Facebook news feed which was ushered in with firmware 3.10, the PS3’s Facebook integration is taking the next step in socializing the PSN experience. Sony is releasing a PlayStation Network Facebook application that gives users the ability to post their PlayStation Network profile, along with a full trophy card, on Facebook. Find out which of your Facebook BFFs are on the PlayStation Network and send them an invite using this new application. Once your Facebook friends are added to your PSN friends list, you can check to see if they’re online.
