Sony's PSP business has been a bit challenged in the U.S. but it's fared quite well in Japan. The PSP2 is clearly already in the hands of developers, but will Sony be taking the right direction overall with its portable business? In a recent op-ed, IndustryGamers strongly suggested that Sony should get into true mobile gaming with a PlayStation Phone that offers 3G access through a wireless carrier.

It was only a matter of time.

Sony have obtained a court order barring the sale of the USB flash keys by an Australian company. The PS JAILBREAK mod allows the use of  backup discs to be played on the PS3.

Sony obtained an injunction ordering Australian reseller Quantronics to halt sales and distribution of the device until the 31st of August.

Their site was selling the mod for a pricey $170, but now has the item listed as ‘no stock‘. According to PS3News.com, Quantronics has cancelled preorders for PS3 Jailbreak and are refunding customers.

Another site listed in the court document, Ozmodchips, now has the modchip listed as sold out.

Meanwhile, CVG reports that Sony can detect players who are using the PS JAILBREAK mod and are hitting them with the ban-stick:

If you’re planning on building a gaming PC anytime soon, you will be pleased to know of Intel’s upcoming price reductions for some of their flagship processors. In just seven says time on the 30th of August, the Core i7 950 (LGA1366, 3.06 GHz, quad-core) which is currently retailing for $564 on Amazon.com will be slashed to $294, effectively replacing the i7 930.

The U.S. government on Monday announced new rules that make it officially legal for iPhone owners to "jailbreak" their device and run unauthorized third-party applications. In addition, it is now acceptable to unlock any cell phone for use on multiple carriers.

According to The Associated Press, the government approved a handful of new exemptions to a federal law that prevents the circumvention of technical measure that prevent users from accessing and modifying copyrighted works. The report noted that every three years, the Library of Congress' Copyright Office authorizes exemptions to ensure existing law does not prevent non-infringing use of copyrighted material.
